Did Janet Jackson Wardrobe Malfunction Help GoDaddy.com's Success?


Super Bowl XXXVIII, which was broadcast live on February 1, 2004 from Houston, Texas on the CBS television network in the United State was noted for a controversial half time show in which Janet Jackson's breast, clearly cover by a nipple shield, was exposed by Justin Timberlake in what was later referred as a "Wardrobe Malfunction". The incident was widely discussed along with the rest of the half time show, it led to an immediate crackdown and widespread debate on perceived indecency in broadcasting.  



Latter day, GoDaddy.com, the online domain and the internet company, apparently saw an opportunity in all of attention following the incident, they decided to place their own commercial  on Super Bowl XXXIX which make fun of the increasing of broadcast censorship. After it aired in the first half of the game, someone at FOX and the NFL decided it was inappropriate, and the second airing was pulled and replaced by The Simpsons's ads. And then the commercial received the highest recall rating of all the advertisement show on the game. Next day, web site received the visitor increased by 1.1 million and eventually more than 2.6 million viewer watched the advertisement. Sales skyrocketed from $120 million in 2004 to over a projected $200 million in 2005. GoDaddy.com was the number one shared hosting provider in the United State.

Finally, Did Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction help GoDaddy.com success? Actually not. GoDaddy.com just is the good opportunistic to take the advantage form Janet's publicity.
